What is the Store Front Counter Switch and how to locate it.

 

 Introduction:

  1. Every Daniels Retail Store has 1 Front Counter Switch.

  2. This is a 16 port UN-managed Linksys Switch.

  3. The equipment such as Workstations, Print Server/Roll Printer, MD Receipt Printer, Fax/Scanner Printer are connected to this switch via Ethernet cables.

  4. All the above-mentioned equipment will be able to talk to each other through this Front Counter Switch.

 5. Every Port of the switch will have a LED light. This LED light will light up GREEN color when an equipment is connected to that Port and the connection is Live (good).

 

Question: Where/How to locate the Front Counter Switch in the store?

Answer: Each piece of equipment mentioned at the introduction (Workstations, Print Server/Roll Printer, MD Receipt Printer, Fax/Scanner Printer) will have a directly connected Ethernet cable between the equipment and the Front Counter Switch.

So, pick any of the equipment mentioned above (Example: Workstations, Print Server/Roll Printer, MD Receipt Printer) then start from the equipment end, follow its Ethernet cable all the way till the end. The end of the ethernet cable you are following will be connected to a device and that device is the Front Counter switch in your store. Also, you will be able to find the Port of the switch where that equipment is connected to.

Question: What is the function of Store Front Counter Switch?

Answer: All the above-mentioned equipment (Workstations, Print Server/Roll Printer, MD Receipt Printer, Fax/Scanner Printer) will be able to talk to each other through this Front Counter Switch. This Front Counter Switch can be a Single Point of failure, sometimes. Example: If any of the workstations in the store cannot talk to each other within the store, and everything at workstation ends seems to fine, then it is possible the issue is with  the switch.

The Front Counter Switch is powered by a single power supply. The power cord is connected at the back end of the switch.

When the Power ON the left front corner LED with lit up in BLUE announcing that the power is ON to the device. (see the following picture)
